JAWS Power Tip: How To Set a PlaceMarker on a Web Page with JAWS
Released: 8/8/2024
In JAWS, you can add PlaceMarkers on a web page to make it easy to navigate directly to a certain spot just by pressing the letter K.
For example, there may be a page you visit frequently where you need to perform a certain task quickly by jumping to a control, heading, or edit box to log in or enter information.
To set a PlaceMarker:
1.) Load a page with a location you want to save as a PlaceMarker.
2.) Navigate to the location.
3.) Once you are there, press CTRL+SHIFT+K to access the PlaceMarker list.
4.) JAWS will say “PlaceMarker List dialog, PlaceMarker List view” followed by the name of any PlaceMarkers you have set.
5.) Press TAB to move to the Add Button and press ENTER.
6.) You will be prompted FOR a name, can choose whether you want the PlaceMarker to work on all pages in the domain/website, and asked if you want to anchor the PlaceMarker to the text at your chosen location so that JAWS can find the PlaceMarker even if the location moves on the webpage.
7.) Press TAB to navigate through the dialog and make your selections, then choose Ok once you are done.
8.) You will return to the webpage.
9.) Press K to navigate forward through PlaceMarkers on a page and SHIFT+K to navigate backward.
