Greetings,

1) Mike May has been on Tek Talk at the beginning of each year for several years reporting on the Consumer Electronics Show held the first week of each January in Las Vegas to tell about many of the new devices which he believes will provide more assistance in the lives of blind and low vision folks. It's that time of year again, and Mike will be the guest of Tek Talk on GMT Tuesday, 24 January at 01:00:

http://conference321.com/masteradmin/room.asp?id=rsc9613dc89eb2

2) You can read another take on CES on the National Federation of the Blind blog:

https://nfb.org/blog/vonb-blog/ces-las-vegas-highlights-accessible-technology-blind

3) The manager of the Computer Accommmodations Program at the University of Minnesota has consolidated his collection of web accessibility and ARIA resources onto the Inclusive by Design site:

http://inclusive-design.umn.edu/

4) In a related matter, the final rule for the timeline for enforcing the Section 508 standard has been published in the Federal Register:

https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2017/01/18/2017-00395/information-and-communication-technology-ict-standards-and-guidelines?utm_campaign=subscription%20mailing%20list&utm_source=federalregister.gov&utm_medium=email

5) Still on Section 508, Section 508 Frustrations and Fixes is a Facebook Community of Practice (CoP), which is an open space to share perspectives about barriers to creating and remediating accessible digital materials, and to identify bridges that will lead to more widespread digital accessibility. The CoP will operate January 9th 2017 through March 17th 2017, with new topics posted each week. Accessibility experts will lead discussions and share relevant resources. To request access to the group, visit:

8) After a period of silence, we're excited to see that the public beta version of Dictation Bridge, the free program being developed to enable screen reader users to use Dragon or Windows Speech Recognition, is now available. This version lets you dictate text and control NVDA while NVDA is the active screen reader, with JAWS and Window-Eyes support said to be coming:

10) It appears the digital certificate in newer versions of ZoomText and Window-Eyes software products has been compromised, and as a result will be revoked on or around January 26th 2017.
