Greetings,

1) Well, another flurry of new Apple equipment, phones, tv, watch. Is anybody else, like me, a bit bored and weary of the constant push to buy new and expensive things that don't enhance life very much? (That's not just a comment on this news item, but on the whole constant push to buy more!) Well, Apple hopes you aren't in that camp, and there are plenty of ways to learn about the new equipment. For one thing, you can read this AppleVis post:

2A) Podcasts are great for covering this event. By the time you read this, there should be a Tech Doctor podcast summarizing the new hardware:

2B) And Episode 53 of the Blind Side podcast consists of a roundtable with lots of information

3A) Three tidbits from Jonathan Mosen close out our survey of the Apple hardware blast. First, his blog post discusses the concern about accessibility of the new Face ID feature in the iPhone X:

http://bit.ly/2y0ezZX

3B) Second, with this new hardware traditionally comes a new operating system, iOS 11. the iOS Without the Eye book will go on sale this weekend so you'll be prepared for the September 19 release:

3C) And finally, Jonathan will be the guest on the GMT 19 September 2017 edition of Tek Talk to discuss all these matters:

4) The September 2017 issue of AccessWorld contains the first of a two-part review of Aira, a discussion of audio description with Amazon Video, an article about the International Association of Accessibility Professionals, and much more:

http://bit.ly/2xzP0me

5A) Having mentioned audio description in that previous tidbit, Netflix is inviting blind Canadians to respond to a survey on audio description by 20 September 2017:

http://bit.ly/2wY6wzZ

5B) And here's the Netflix Audio Description Style Guide in case you want to understand the process:

6) The CNN Lite page is a very easy news page to navigate:

http://bit.ly/2h4SQsX

7) It's amazing how many open-source textbooks you can get, and the listing is here in this PDF:

8) In a similar vein, BBC Radio 4 suggests you go 'back to school with the podcast university,' informing us about a whole array of fascinating audio material:

9) The latest free upgrade for the Braille Sense Polaris offers major fixes for Word Processor editing, creating and receiving email, web browser fixes, the ability to activate notifications, the ability to create and edit math in Nemeth and UeB, and the ability to use Grade 2 in Google Docs (.DOCX File):
