This Week's Featured Advertisement: Chameleon 2.0 Update Features Text to Speech!

Three kids each holding a chameleon in a different color bumper case. The color of the cases are light pink, light purple, and light blue.

The Chameleon is a sleek, 20-cell refreshable braille display with a Perkins-style keyboard that connects to multiple devices via Bluetooth and includes an editor, book reader, calculator, clock, and file manager. Text-to-speech and audio support are now available on the Chameleon 20! With text-to-speech, users will benefit from the many customizable options such as: include read after pan, read while typing, read while deleting, a read all command (Space + G), and read text under cursor. Reading text under the cursor allows you to quickly familiarize yourself with new words and braille contractions. Each option can be toggled off and on and the whole feature can be quickly disabled with a hotkey (Space + Previous thumb key) to avoid any distractions. Audio support allows users to play unprotected DAISY files, increase and decrease playback speed, fast forward and rewind, and navigate throughout the book using the formatting of the file or user-created bookmarks. E.) APH Is Ready for a Braille Revolution (3.9% of all clicks.)
You undoubtedly heard the big splash in 2017, when we introduced our plans for the Graphiti, a dynamic, multi-level tactile display. All of us here vividly remember the day of the solar eclipse that year, when people who are visually impaired were able to touch the sun with their hands using the device. But through that development process, we learned that we can — and must — do even more. Graphiti would have been used side-by-side with a braille textbook. But now, in partnership with HumanWare, we're developing what we consider the holy grail of Braille: a single tablet device that provides both braille text and tactile graphics, all in one:

27) The Volunteer-Run Bots That Make Twitter More Accessible

In a recent viral photo from the popular Twitter account Bodega Cats, a black cat is peering into the camera from its perch behind a shelf at a corner store. Surrounded by hanging packages of Sour Patch Kids, Haribo gummy bears, and other brightly-colored treats, the cat is invisible except for its two watchful green eyes, narrowed slightly and glaring from the shadows. There's no text in the post, but the joke is obvious: choose your snack wisely. The picture has been liked and retweeted thousands of times. But for people using screen readers, as many blind or low vision users do, the content is imperceptible. The person running the account hasn't added alternative text — or alt text — to the photo:

About: Our Scope of Products: We specialize in 3 lines of products, all intended to assist in access to adaptive electronics, enhance experiences for guide dog teams, and offer practical solutions for organization and travel with a variety of leather bags, pouches, and backpacks. Then there are the random products that are included, just for fun! We enjoy working with our customers 1-on-1 to their money is well spent and not wasted on something they may not use. In thinking about our customers and whether we will carry a product our guiding motto is that it must be: practical, affordable, simple, tested, and accessible (the pasta principle) and it seems to work very well.

What We Do: We bring our business either via zoom, phone, or to your conference or convention, to give each customer a chance for questions and where possible, "hands on" evaluation of the merchandise. Kae and I test and use each product as blind users before we put it in our catalog. In the case of products for guide and service dogs, our own three guides, Thor, Debra and Melody, are engaged in the process of evaluating the usefulness, durability, and/or fun of the product. We want each of our products to be useful, accessible, affordable, and, whenever possible, fun! Our inventory is constantly changing, so a visit to us is never the same experience twice!
