11) New Coding Tool Could Aid Computer Programmers Who Are Blind Or Have Low Vision

The tool, called Grid Editor, serves as a modification to traditional code editors that programmers use to add lines of code when updating features and functions in software. Prior work has focused on making different parts of the coding process more accessible for blind and low-vision users, such as reading or navigating code. Grid Editor is the first to place emphasis on code editing — an important step in making continuous updates to software, in which programmers edit and update existing code that was previously written by other programmers:

18) Why Are There Now Two "Outlook For Windows"?

Microsoft is hyping a new "Outlook for Windows" as a coming replacement to the familiar Windows program giving both the same "Outlook for Windows" name even though the two programs are completely different and the proposed replacement is quite crippled:
https://office-watch.com/2022/why-two-outlook-windows/

19) Too Many Microsoft Outlook's — We Explain Them All

Once upon a time there was just one "Microsoft Outlook" but these days there are at least ten current programs or services under the "Outlook" name — and two programs called "Outlook for Windows". That's before counting past versions that are still supported:
https://office-watch.com/2022/many-faces-of-microsoft-outlook/

20) Add An iCalendar .ics To An Outlook Calendar But Be Careful

Inserting an .ics iCalendar item into Outlook is typical Microsoft Office. Seemingly easy if you believe the simplistic 'help' from Redmond but a little more involved in practice. iCalendar .ics files are small text files which contain an appointment or event. It's a common standard so they can be used by Outlook or any other calendar software or online service. They can arrive via email (Outlook uses them to send appointments) or some booking sites (airlines, events etc.) have a link to an .ics. Or sent by more secure means like instant messaging, document attachment, USB memory stick etc:

November 4th 2022 | We're just a month away! The 2022 holiday edition of Let's Go Shopping is scheduled for Friday, November 4th 2022 and Saturday, November 5th 2022. Several business owners have already sent in their RSVP, with an intent to present attendees with a full slate of fabulous gift ideas, so you can shop 'til you drop right from the comfort of your home. Any vendor who joins us for the inflation-fighters hour has pledged to offer at least one item at a deep discount. While of course, every little bit helps, I'll be honest, a measly ten percent discount barely gets my attention. The Let's Go Shopping entrepreneurs have agreed to do better than that, at least for one special item. We'll also have the usual stocking stuffers hour, where vendors with smaller gifts that would make great "secret Santa," "white elephant" gift exchanges, or thoughtful stocking fillers will share their products, all under $20.00. Finally, we'll also have our end of the day happy hour, our casual Q and A session for those who may have missed some info during a vendor presentation. Here's the important part: If you know of anyone who would like to join us, either as a vendor, or as an attendee, please send them our link below. 6) HLAA Webinar: The FDA Regulations for Over-the-Counter (OTC) Hearing Aids

November 8th 2022 | 11AM PT, 12PM MT, 1PM CT, 2PM ET, 6PM GMT | On October 17, 2022, the FDA regulations on over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids went into effect, creating a new category of hearing devices that can be safely sold to adults 18 years of age and older with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss without the intervention of a hearing professional. These devices will be referred to as OTC hearing aids. In addition, the FDA will now refer to traditional hearing aids as prescription hearing aids. The regulations provide for technical and safety guidelines for those manufacturers who wish to make OTC hearing aids. This new pathway may empower consumers seeking to take responsibility for their own hearing loss. At the same time, education will be needed to help consumers find OTC hearing aids that work for them. This webinar will provide an overview of the key points of the regulation and how this may affect availability and access of both OTC and prescription hearing aids. In addition, we will provide suggestions on determining your hearing loss, accessing assistance from hearing professionals and key features to consider when purchasing OTC hearing aids. Presenter: Thomas A Powers, Ph.D., founder/managing member, Powers Consulting and strategic adviser, Hearing Industries Association Thomas A. Powers, Ph.D., provides management consulting to the hearing health industry:

12) Usability and Accessibility for Digital Marketers — Delight Your Audience With Inclusive UX

November 10th 2022 | Presenters: Digital Marketing Institute, TPGi's Principal UX David Swallow, TPGi's UX Practice Manager David Sload, and Marketing Educator and Author Will Francis. Digital channels provide an opportunity for you to effectively reach and grow your target audience, communicate with them, provide information, build brand relationships, and enable transactions. The related concepts of usability and accessibility address the importance of removing barriers to efficient, effective, and enjoyable digital interactions for all users, including users with disabilities. When barriers are present, we risk brand damage, losing our audience to competitors, and potentially unlawful discrimination against people with disabilities. But how can we ensure usable and accessible digital experiences? To mark World Usability Day 2022, accessibility and user experience specialists David Swallow and David Sloan will make the argument that a focus on the needs of people with disabilities can help digital marketers deliver better user experiences for everyone. We'll define key concepts of usability, accessibility, and inclusive design and provide practical tips that everyone involved in digital marketing can apply in their work to make their digital experiences more accessible and usable:

About: Our Scope of Products: We specialize in 3 lines of products, all intended to assist in access to adaptive electronics, enhance experiences for guide dog teams, and offer practical solutions for organization and travel with a variety of leather bags, pouches, and backpacks. Then there are the random products that are included, just for fun! We enjoy working with our customers 1-on-1 to their money is well spent and not wasted on something they may not use. In thinking about our customers and whether we will carry a product our guiding motto is that it must be: practical, affordable, simple, tested, and accessible (the pasta principle) and it seems to work very well.

What We Do: We bring our business either via zoom, phone, or to your conference or convention, to give each customer a chance for questions and where possible, "hands on" evaluation of the merchandise. Kae and I test and use each product as blind users before we put it in our catalog. In the case of products for guide and service dogs, our own three guides, Thor, Debra and Melody, are engaged in the process of evaluating the usefulness, durability, and/or fun of the product. We want each of our products to be useful, accessible, affordable, and, whenever possible, fun! Our inventory is constantly changing, so a visit to us is never the same experience twice!
