JAWS Power Tip: How To Navigate to the Address Bar in File Manager with JAWS
Released: 2/1/2024
When in File Manager, or an application where you can save or open files such as Word, WordPad, or Notepad, you can access the Address Bar just like you can in a web browser.
This enables you to quickly navigate to a specific folder when saving or opening a file.
1.) When in any of these environments, press ALT+D to access the Address Bar.
You can also press CTRL+L if that is the keystroke you typically use on the web.
Both will take you to the same place.
2.) Once in the Address Bar, type the name of the folder you want to access and press ENTER.
If you are in File Explorer, focus will be placed on the first file in that folder.
If you are in Word or another application where you want to save or open a file, focus will not move to the file list.
3.) If you are saving a file, after typing the folder name and pressing ENTER, press ALT+N to navigate to the File Name edit box.
Type a name for your file and press ENTER.
4.) If you are opening a file, press TAB until you hear "Shell Folder View List View."
Focus will be in the list of files in the folder you selected.
Locate the file you want to open and press ENTER.
If you know the file name, you can press ALT+N to navigate to the File Name edit box, type the file name, and press ENTER to open it.
