JAWS Power Tip: How To Create a Desktop Shortcut to an App in Windows 11 with JAWS
Released: 2/27/2024
You can create a shortcut to an app on your desktop, which makes it easy to locate and access quickly.
To do this:
1.) Press WINDOWS+R to access the Run dialog.
2.) Type “shell:appsfolder” without the quotes and press ENTER. Focus is in a list of apps installed on your computer.
3.) Press DOWN ARROW to navigate this list, or use first letter navigation to locate the app you want.
4.) Press SHIFT+F10 to perform a right mouse click, and press S to select “Create Shortcut.” A message displays stating you can't create a shortcut here, and asking if you would like to create it on the desktop instead. Press ALT+Y to select Yes.
5.) A shortcut to the app will be placed on your desktop. It will include the name of the app, followed by the word “shortcut.”
6.) You can rename the shortcut so it only includes the name of the app. To do this, press WINDOWS+D to navigate to your desktop.
7.) Navigate to the shortcut you created by pressing the first letter of the app name, then press F2 to open the Rename dialog.
8.) Edit the name or type a new one and press ENTER. Your shortcut should reflect the new name.
9.) Press ALT+TAB to navigate back to the applications list and press ALT+F4 to close it.
