C.) Remote Incident Manager Versus The Other Players — Part 2: RIM vs. TeamViewer (3.2% of all clicks.)
I, Aaron Di Blasi, Publisher for Top Tech Tidbits, and former remote computer technician would like to provide some information on this topic that is directly related to an experience that I had recently in serving a blind client. We were attempting to connect via TeamViewer because that was the client's choice of software. Perhaps because it is free and perhaps because we had successfully used it to connect in previous sessions. Not so this time. The client could not use NVDA, Dolphin QS with Supernova or Windows Narrator to access the TeamViewer application. When the client reached out to these screen reader support groups she was informed by both Dolphin and NVDA that, "the current version of TeamViewer has broken accessibility in their user interface for all screen readers." This incident took place on September 29th 2022. With that, we give you the following article:

D.) Software Developer Invents Assistant Glasses For Blind And Partially Sighted Users (3.1% of all clicks.)
A 25-year-old Turkish Software developer has invented special glasses, named "assistant glasses," that help visually impaired people to "recognize" people or "identify" objects. Graduated from the U.S. Brown College, Melis Gokalp, who is working in an international digital health systems company, wrote the software for the assistant glasses between 2019 and 2021. Here's how they work:

11) What Is The Google Guided Frame Feature? | Gemma Ryles | Trusted Reviews

The new Guided Frame feature is an accessibility feature that aims to help visually-impaired and blind users take selfies with more ease. Guided Frame comes in the form of a voice and it helps guide users, helping them understand where they should hold their phone if they want to take a picture with the forward-facing camera. If a user opens the camera and holds it in front of their face, the voice will advise them to lift the camera up or down so they can get the best angle:

12) Google's Guided Frame Gives Visually Impaired Folks A Voice-Over For Selfies | Haje Jan Kamps | TechCrunch

Love 'em or hate 'em, selfies are an important aspect of photography; they help us connect with loved ones, and people spend an extraordinary amount of time thinking about how to look good in photos taken of yourself. (I should know; I wrote a whole damn book about 'em in a past life). People who are blind and vision impaired still use phones, of course — there's a ton of audio guidance available on modern smartphones — but taking photographs is much harder. Well, it was, at any rate, until Google introduced its Guided Frame, which sparked into life at one of Google's hackathon events:

13) Thoughts On The Proposed Websites And Software Applications Accessibility Act | Aaron Gustafson

Last month, Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) and Representative John P. Sarbanes (D-Md.) introduced the Websites and Software Applications Accessibility Act — I'm gonna call it the WS3A for short — simultaneously in the U.S. Senate (S. 4998) and House of Representatives (H.R. 9021) to explicitly bring websites — and other forms of digital media that didn't exist when the ADA was signed into law — into the purview of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). I am definitely in favor of this effort as it removes the ambiguity that currently exists in U.S. law as to whether websites are governed by the ADA. The WS3A is a reasonable framework, but there is still a lot of work to be done when it (hopefully) passes:

16) WordPress Accessibility Day

November 2nd 2022 | 8AM PT, 9AM MT, 10AM CT, 11AM ET, 3PM GMT | WordPress Accessibility Day is a free, 24-hour online event scheduled to start at 15:00 UTC (11:00 US Eastern, 8:00 US Pacific) on Wednesday, November 2nd. The conference will be held virtually so you can present from anywhere worldwide. Here are some other important things to know about speaking at WordPress Accessibility Day: We will provide an accessible speaking experience — the presentation platform will be screen reader-friendly, and we will have captions and sign language interpretation available for speakers as needed. You don't have to have speaking experience! We would love to have first-time speakers present and can support you in presenting as needed. You don't have to be an "expert" or have any special certifications. Anyone with something to share related to accessibility on the web or in WordPress is invited to apply. You can share your journey learning about accessibility or your experience as a person with a disability even if you don't think you've reached the end of that journey yet. Your topic doesn't have to be explicitly WordPress related. While we want some talks specific to WordPress and want to encourage developer-level presentations, not all talks need to be specific to WordPress. General website accessibility talks with broad applications for websites of all types and people of all levels of technical abilities are welcome. If you have an idea for a talk to share your knowledge or experiences about the intersection of WordPress and accessibility, we'd love to hear it!

18) Let's Go Shopping 7 | Elegant Insights

November 4th 2022 | We're just a month away! The 2022 holiday edition of Let's Go Shopping is scheduled for Friday, November 4th 2022 and Saturday, November 5th 2022. Several business owners have already sent in their RSVP, with an intent to present attendees with a full slate of fabulous gift ideas, so you can shop 'til you drop right from the comfort of your home. I'll have a few new vendors for you, as well as returning favorites. I'll also have a new hour set aside just to help with overburdened budgets this year, thanks to inflation. Any vendor who joins us for the inflation-fighters hour has pledged to offer at least one item at a deep discount. While of course, every little bit helps, I'll be honest, a measly ten percent discount barely gets my attention. The Let's Go Shopping entrepreneurs have agreed to do better than that, at least for one special item. We'll also have the usual stocking stuffers hour, where vendors with smaller gifts that would make great "secret Santa," "white elephant" gift exchanges, or thoughtful stocking fillers will share their products, all under $20.00. Finally, we'll also have our end of the day happy hour, our casual Q and A session for those who may have missed some info during a vendor presentation. Here's the important part: If you know of anyone who would like to join us, either as a vendor, or as an attendee, please send them our link below. It's the main information page for Let's Go Shopping, and they can subscribe to our groups list for all the relevant details, including the Zoom virtual shopping mall login. They can also send a blank email to: lgs+subscribe@groups.io 📧️. to sign up to our announce list. This is where all the most important info is posted, including special sales, promos, giveaways, and the event schedule and vendor directory. So, please share this message! Get ready to shop for the best gifts from the best variety of small business owners anywhere, and get your gift list checked off early. Ready for a little retail therapy? Let's Go Shopping! About: Our Scope of Products: We specialize in 3 lines of products, all intended to assist in access to adaptive electronics, enhance experiences for guide dog teams, and offer practical solutions for organization and travel with a variety of leather bags, pouches, and backpacks. Then there are the random products that are included, just for fun! We enjoy working with our customers 1-on-1 to their money is well spent and not wasted on something they may not use. In thinking about our customers and whether we will carry a product our guiding motto is that it must be: practical, affordable, simple, tested, and accessible (the pasta principle) and it seems to work very well.

What We Do: We bring our business either via zoom, phone, or to your conference or convention, to give each customer a chance for questions and where possible, "hands on" evaluation of the merchandise. Kae and I test and use each product as blind users before we put it in our catalog. In the case of products for guide and service dogs, our own three guides, Thor, Debra and Melody, are engaged in the process of evaluating the usefulness, durability, and/or fun of the product. We want each of our products to be useful, accessible, affordable, and, whenever possible, fun! Our inventory is constantly changing, so a visit to us is never the same experience twice!
