Apple is rumored to be on the verge of integrating OpenAI's ChatGPT technology into iOS 18. We're expecting to learn more about the partnership at WWDC on June 10, but until then, here's a way to interact with ChatGPT on your iPhone, whatever you're doing on it.
For users of OpenAI's ChatGPT who value privacy, the AI chatbot can be used without compromising control of your data.
It's OK to be doubtful of tech leaders' grandiose visions of our AI future — but that doesn't mean the technology won't have a huge impact.
AI can precisely anticipate the information needs of digital workers and understand why they need it without them making explicit requests. Without this AI, workers need to query knowledge management systems, which might not give accurate or the most recent information due to limitations like keyword mismatch and outdated documents. Additionally, digital workers dedicate nearly 30% of their time to searching for necessary information, drastically impacting productivity. Yet, the journey toward adopting such AI-driven systems reveals significant challenges like speed and accuracy of AI, change management, cost, data hygiene, privacy and security concerns. Let's dive into these challenges and ways to overcome them to fully harness AI for proactive knowledge accessibility.
10.) Apple Updates 🍎️

With this Fall's update, hikers can map trails and stay in touch.
Today, Apple told us what to expect in the next round of software updates, coming this fall. While the focus was, unsurprisingly, AI, there is more than just that to be excited about. Let's dive into what you can look forward to on your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, and Apple TV later this year. Or next year, in some cases; as has become common in the last few years, Apple announced features it won't be rolling out until well after the software's initial release.
Apple Intelligence will transcribe and summarize your recordings.
iPadOS 18 takes iPad to the next level with Apple Intelligence, the introduction of Calculator with Math Notes, new handwriting tools in Notes, additional ways to customize iPad, and more.
The Mac experience gets better than ever with iPhone Mirroring, big updates to Safari, highly anticipated games, and Apple Intelligence to deliver all-new capabilities
The release introduces all-new customization options, the biggest-ever redesign of Photos, powerful updates for staying connected, and Apple Intelligence, the personal intelligence system.
Setting a new standard for privacy in AI, Apple Intelligence understands personal context to deliver intelligence that is helpful and relevant.
This fall, AirPods software updates will transform the way users respond to Siri, take calls with friends and loved ones, and immerse themselves in their favorite games. Delivering a seamless, hands-free experience, Siri Interactions allow AirPods Pro users to privately respond to Siri with a simple head nod yes or shake no. For even clearer call quality, Voice Isolation comes to AirPods Pro, helping ensure the caller's voice is heard in loud or windy environments. AirPods updates also significantly reduce audio latency while gaming, and add Personalized Spatial Audio for even more immersive gameplay.
Here's a quick recap of the most exciting new features that Apple Intelligence puts right at your fingertips. It's a new kind of intelligence that's personal, useful, and built right into the products you use every day. Apple Intelligence draws on your personal context to help you write, express yourself visually, and get things done effortlessly, all while setting a brand-new standard for privacy in AI.

Hearing test and hearing aid features could be coming this year.
Thanks to a new dedicated app, passwords will no longer be buried in Settings with iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15. Too many people go through life with one or two passwords they use for everything. This problem has been exacerbated by Apple's tendency to hide necessary functionality, such as a password manager deep in the Settings app. That all changes with iOS 18 and the other new operating systems, according to a report from Bloomberg. Apple will introduce a new dedicated Passwords app for iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS 15, and visionOS 2.
The ChatGPT iPhone app has been updated so you can keep talking to ChatGPT while multitasking in other apps. This enables a much more powerful, desktop-like experience while using the iPhone.

When multiple monitors are connected to your computer, you can extend your Windows desktop across them. Because you can place multiple desktop icons and applications where you like on your main and secondary monitors, this capability can increase productivity. However, if you are running ZoomText at a high zoom level, navigating the extended desktop can be a challenge since you cannot see all of it at once. This is where the new Single Desktop mode setting is helpful.

Dear Community Members. Recently, NV Access was approached by an Australian organization to develop custom scripting for the NVDA screen reader, enabling its use in a specific call centre environment. The task involves making NVDA compatible with the Genesys call centre software. NV Access is keen to expand the NVDA scripting ecosystem. We are eager to identify individuals or organizations in Australia capable and willing to undertake this work. This is an excellent opportunity to help reduce employment barriers for blind and vision impaired individuals. From what we understand, the Genesys software is quite inaccessible, often relying on colors and shapes to convey information instead of text labels. This project will likely require on-site work to address these specific accessibility challenges. If you are based in Australia and possess the expertise and willingness to perform this work, please contact us at info@nvaccess.org 📧️. In your email, include details of any previous NVDA scripting projects you have completed for corporate or large organizations.

During the first week of an online graduate school class, students were prompted to create a biometric password with BioSig-ID, which would serve as an additional security measure for accessing course websites. I didn't realize it at the time, but my first week of class would include a lesson on BioSig-ID accessibility for visual impairment and handwriting difficulties, as my dual diagnoses of low vision and dysgraphia meant that I couldn't use the tool with its default settings and had to research solutions with my professor. Here is what I learned about BioSig-ID accessibility for low vision and dysgraphia, and how I requested disability accommodations to use it.

I liked the lightning connector. It was small, versatile, and worked across most Apple devices. Even though everyone seemed to love USB-C I wasn't immediately sold. This started to change when I started using a USB-C iPhone last year, and now that my iPad is joining the USB gang I am starting to see the benefits.

Accessible labels for the blind, deafblind, and anyone with vision loss. Your biggest problem isn't poor eyesight. It's that so much of the information in the world is visual. But you shouldn't have to wait around for someone else to get the information you need. Or carry around a bulky, outdated device. There is a better way to get accurate and complete information every time. So you can reduce stress and gain independence.

About: Our Scope of Products: We specialize in 3 lines of products, all intended to assist in access to adaptive electronics, enhance experiences for guide dog teams, and offer practical solutions for organization and travel with a variety of leather bags, pouches, and backpacks. Then there are the random products that are included, just for fun! We enjoy working with our customers 1-on-1 to their money is well spent and not wasted on something they may not use.
In thinking about our customers and whether we will carry a product our guiding motto is that it must be: practical, affordable, simple, tested, and accessible (the pasta principle) and it seems to work very well.
What We Do: We bring our business either via zoom, phone, or to your conference or convention, to give each customer a chance for questions and where possible, "hands on" evaluation of the merchandise. Kae and I test and use each product as blind users before we put it in our catalog. In the case of products for guide and service dogs, our own three guides, Thor, Debra and Melody, are engaged in the process of evaluating the usefulness, durability, and/or fun of the product. We want each of our products to be useful, accessible, affordable, and, whenever possible, fun! Our inventory is constantly changing, so a visit to us is never the same experience twice!
If you're like me, you probably have more things to plug into your computer than available ports. That's why we've now added the Pluggable USB-C 7-in-1 Hub. Plug it into your laptop and you will get 3 USB ports, SD and Micro SD card slots, a USBC charging port, and an HDMI video port. It's available now for just $29.95.

Mobility can be tricky. Ultrasound obstacle detectors to detect upper body obstacles, handheld GPS for turn-by-turn navigation, smart glasses to read building numbers or get scene descriptions... What if all of that was done by a single device? biped is the world's first all-in-one mobility harness. It's worn on the shoulders, has cameras on the left side of the chest, a small AI computer on the right side, and batteries behind the neck. The device can detect obstacles (head or ground level, including holes), provide GPS navigation with turn-by-turn instructions, and upon the press of the "AI button" on the right side of the chest, generate descriptions of your surroundings. biped was developed in Switzerland, with 250 beta-testers, O&M trainers, and autonomous driving researchers.

Hi, Tidbits readers, my name's Ben Moxey and I'm based in Newcastle, Australia. I'm really happy to be part of the Tidbits Team and look forward to supporting this valuable publication.
A bit about me and how I came to work in the BVI area. I grew up with very low vision in one eye due to retinal issues and relied on magnification and speech throughout school. They also tried to teach me Braille, but let's just say that I wasn't the best student! I was determined to use my remaining vision, no matter how impractical it was becoming.
When I was 20, the other retina came off and I've now been totally blind for about 21 years. This is when my love for assistive technology, and technology in general, really kicked in. I'll be honest, I was a bit of a computer nerd anyway, but I could quickly see how technology was my key to enhanced independence and lifestyle. I embraced screen readers, early smart phones and mobility aids. I even finally realised the huge value of Braille and finished off the course, though I'm still pretty slow!
Long story short (not one of my strong points), I've worked in the BVI area for 12 years with much of that spent reviewing, recommending and teaching assistive technology that suits the individual. I'm currently a proud employee of Guide Dogs NSW/ACT where I was the Practice Lead for the assistive technology service, and I've now moved into an Access and Technology Advisor role. Basically, this involves a strong focus on accessibility and technology innovation.
Feel free to look me up on LinkedIn, but I'll warn you in advance that I haven't given my profile the recommended attention!
All the best and happy reading!

In addition to serving as an Editor to Top Tech Tidbits David also serves as an Editor to the Access Information News publication and is also the National Commercial Assistive Technology Advisor for Vision Australia where he has worked since 1990. Over this time he has assisted people who are blind or vision impaired in their home, education, and work settings to take advantage of the benefits of using assistive and main stream technology.
In the last seventeen years, he has also been involved with evaluating technology for use by people who are blind or vision impaired covering both low and high tech equipment (including Microsoft, Samsung, Google, Amazon, and Apple). David is also one of the key spokespersons for Vision Australia relating to technology.
He has been an Apple Ambassador for Apple Australia since 2009 with a group of other Ambassadors / Apple Distinguished Educators (ADE)'s covering the range of Apple's Accessibility solutions throughout Australia.
David produces a range of podcasts (since 2011) covering Apple and other technologies which are distributed on his own podcast (http://davidwoodbr.podbean.com). In addition, he also has a regular Talking Tech program (since 2013) which can be heard every Tuesday at 4:30 Eastern Summer Time on Vision Australia Radio Melbourne (available online) or via https://omny.fm/shows/talking-tech-vision-australia-radio
David also runs a weekly Tech Monday where people can chat about assistive and main stream technology, share information, and any tips and tricks.
David lost his sight when he was 8 years old and had to learn Braille. Since then, he completed high school, went to Sydney University receiving a Social Work degree, spent 4 years drug and alcohol counselling, and then moved into his current job.
As a person who is blind, David believes that as a user of the technology that he recommends to others, that he is well situated to look at the strengths and shortcomings of the assistive technology that he comes across in both his professional and personal life, in particular, mainstream technology that is accessible.
In addition to his weekly contributions to Top Tech Tidbits and Access Information News, David's regularly occurring activities are his weekly tech radio show, bi-monthly exploring tech webinars for Vision Australia, his iSee podcast when something of note grabs his attention, and the weekly Tech Monday chat sessions.
