I am excited to report that we have been working on a custom GPT for Top Tech Tidbits, using the new ChatGPT Plus Custom GPT feature, that encompasses all of the knowledge that the Top Tech Tidbits domain has to offer.

Going all the way back to 2004.

Progress so far has been buggy, to say the least.

The dreaded "Error Saving Draft" message is still a common occurrence as of this writing.

And while our new custom bot is incredibly knowledgeable in access technology, and very easy to talk to, even for persons with cognitive disabilities, we could not initially get it to properly digest all of the custom information that we provided.

In other words, we provided it with knowledge about subjects specific to Top Tech Tidbits, such as Sponsorship Information, that it would claim to have no knowledge of.

However, after a day or two, this behavior seemed to subside, but we continue to receive the "Error Saving Draft" message any time we exceed a certain number of custom training files. This number currently appears to fluctuate between 12 and 14 files.

Dear OpenAI: If there is a limit to the number of files that can be uploaded, or a limit on the size of each file itself, this would be incredibly useful information to provide.

In addition, we noticed that sometimes, after a knowledge update, when a new question was posed, the "Searching my knowledge" action would just keep spinning indefinitely. Never providing an answer to the question.

This kind of behavior leads me to believe that OpenAI is still working to scale this up in the background. Namely the portion of the process in which our custom training information is properly indexed into the model. Which makes sense, as this is definitely the most challenging portion of the process. One that I fully expect to evolve over time.

As such, we'll be sure to keep everyone updated on this as it evolves.

In the meantime, we encourage you to give it a try.

You can ask it anything.

Have a current question about technology for a specific need? Ask away.

Have a question about Sponsorship Benefits? Ask away.

Been reading Top Tech Tidbits for a long time? Test it's knowledge of former adaptive technologies. Or inquire about the history of Top Tech Tidbits itself. It's all up to you.

Please feel free to share any feedback that you believe might be useful.

While the Top Tech Tidbits Accessibility Ally Custom GPT is currently a free, Public GPT, you still currently need to be logged in with a ChatGPT Plus Subscription ($20 / month) in order to play with it.

Whether or not paid custom GPTs will take off remains to be seen.

I believe their success will depend on providing users with much more detailed information than a generalized GPT can provide.

If they can do that well, and do it consistently, then they may just provide the value necessary to reach monetization.

What do you think? Would you ever pay for access to a custom GPT?
